Supported Storage Systems

Helix International solutions, including the MARS platform and migration services, can interact with or target various storage backends, both on-premises and in the cloud. The MARS HSS Object Storage format can also potentially be layered on top of different underlying systems.

Note: This list provides examples based on available documentation and common enterprise storage solutions. Compatibility may depend on specific configurations and integration methods.

Storage System Examples:

Cloud Storage Platforms:

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) S3 (Simple Storage Service) & Glacier
  • Microsoft Azure Storage Options (Blob Storage, etc.)
  • IBM Cloud Object Storage

On-Premises / Networked Storage:

  • EMC Centera (Content Addressable Storage)
  • IBM Spectrum Protect (formerly TSM) - as a target archive/backup system
  • IBM 3494 Virtual Tape Library (VTL) - primarily as a legacy source interface
  • ECS (Elastic Cloud Storage - Dell EMC)
  • Standard Network File Shares (NFS, SMB/CIFS) - often via mounts
  • Various SAN/NAS systems (implicitly supported via OS mounts)

Optical / Tape (Primarily Legacy Sources):

  • IBM/Plasmon UDO / UDO 2 (Ultra Density Optical)
  • Blu-ray (as an archive medium)

Database Systems (as metadata/primary store in some ECMs):

  • IBM DB2
  • Oracle Database
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • MySQL
  • Informix
